Sub Grants

RAPIDS Sub Granting program is designed to extend and improve the work of local not-for-profit community-based and faith-based organizations (F/CBOs) doing work in the programmatic and geographic areas of our consortium partners. Partners are then able to monitor and evaluate work as they build the capacity of local institutions.

A total of 180 Community/Faith Based Organisations in 28 districts, have been able to access the grants to conduct work in the following program areas:

• OVC care and support
• Home-based/palliative care (HBPC) (including adherence & nutrition)
• Youth behavior change and livelihood development
• Household food security and livelihood development
• Gender equity
• Stigma reduction

The outcomes of the RAPIDS sub-granting activities have included:

• Empowering F/CBOs to reach more beneficiaries in RAPIDS’ strategic areas, thus helping RAPIDS reach its targets. To date, a total of 10,487 OVC, 7,194 youths and 1,153 People Living with HIV/AIDS have been reached through sub-grant partners.
• Strengthening the capacity of local organizations to extend and improve their work.
• Making RAPIDS programming more holistic by offering RAPIDS beneficiaries more comprehensive services through complementary small-grantee activities.
• A defined process for developing long-term relationships, through the provision of follow on grants to high-performing, partners.

Ultimately the goal of the RAPIDS’ Sub Grant component is sustainability – supporting organizations that will outlast RAPIDS and continue to operate effectively after the program ends in 2010. The goal is to have these partner organizations develop enhanced capacity to manage their organizations and seek other sources of funds to continue efforts that contribute to improving the quality of life of Zambians affected by HIV/AIDS.
